English song by Daniel Villar

One of my students from 3rd ESO has written some amazing songs and he has been so kind as to allow me to publish them in the English blog. Even though I have nothing to do with the writing of these lyrics, I am very proud of him. Thanks a lot Daniel, you're an artist!!

-CHANGE THE WORLD NOW-

                                               Around the world,  on world
I can see now the sky falls ,
the earth is broken in you,
you got the power, so move ...

I can find what happened
has shifted inside of you
like now it’s time to act,
hands up in the air and ...

All changes inside of you
break the rules of the world,
anything can happen now,
that’s the  time, it can’t stop.

You know it can happen,
nothing is impossible,
now it’s your time,
trust me right now

Don´t look back,
you’re unbreakable
you are like a stone,
break all, change it all...

You wanna be unstoppable,
nothing is what it seems,
you have seen, you've been,
feel the power in all, in all...

You get it, you are ready,
at the corner I´m steady,
so what I stay here rowdy,
oh,  that I tell you promptly...

Big Bang Theory: What’s up buttercup?, What’s the word, hummingbird?, What’s the gist, physicist?

My students are crazy about TV series and so am I. Whenever we talk about them I'm usually surprised to find out how similar our tastes are as regards to sitcoms. I'm often hooked with one series or another and I normally follow two or three sitcoms. The last I'm watching are "How I Met Your Mother", "Two and a Half Men" and "Big Bang Theory".

I always recommend them to watch their favourite TV programmes in English, whenever it's possible. Most of times they are funnier than their corresponding dubbed versions.

Well, since work's almost done, I've taken a few spare minutes to look for one of my favourite scenes from "Big Bang Theory". I've seen it hundreds of times but every time I see it, I can't stop laughing!! It's hilarious!!

Hope you enjoy it too!!

The definite article

After years of reading compositions, correcting essays and testing students' grammar knowledges, I've realised that the use of the definite article in English usually becomes a headache.

Since the way we Spanish use this article and the way it's used in English is quite different, I've decided to give you some hints to help you with this nagging worry. Remember that in any given language, for each rule there're usually a million exceptions :-P but I really hope this can be helpful for any secondary school student.

If you click on the link below you'll find a document which summarises some of the most frequent uses of "the" and the most common situations where "the" is not used.

Plans for the week

Sample 3rd ESO emails about plans for the future

Hi Joe,

I've thought about the plans and I already know what we can do.
On Monday if you want, we will meet my friends at the park to play football. On Tuesday, we're going to visit my grandparents at the countryside and we're going to stay overnight. On Wednesday, we are going to the Science Museum with my mum and Jenny.
On Thursday, we're going to have a BBQ in the garden with burgers and sausages. On Friday we're going to see a photo exhibition at the library and then we're going to go cycling, if it's sunny. On Saturday, we are going to have a party for you and finally, on Sunday, we're going to catch a train to the airport with my dad and sister.
I hope you kike our plans,

Iria
